FEAST OF ST. ANTONIO ABATE AND THE FIRE FESTIVAL
This two day festival starts after the celebration of the Holy Mass, where a bonfire is lit in front of the Post Office while the bordering square hosts Albisinni music and folk songs.
CARNEVALE DELLE MASCHERE DI TRICARICO
Tricarico is renowned for it’s carnival procession and costumes, and despite many towns in the region having their own Carnival festival, Tricarico has been added to the Federation of European Carnival Cities and is the only town in the former Lucania to have received this accolade.
Held on Shrove Tuesday, the Montese Carnival is a folk festival, celebrating nature’s cycle. Costumes once used in the Montese Carnival were made from skins of animals, then with hemp and jute. Today, paper, cardboard, textiles and disused materials are used. Apart from dressing up, expect a diverse international line up of music and arts.
