‘FLIGHT OF THE EAGLE’ ZIP-WIRE SET TO BECOME OF EUROPE’S MUST VISIT EXPERIENCES

Last year the Italian region of Basilicata  opened its highly anticipated attraction; the ‘Flight of the Eagle’ in Pollino National Park. The second of its kind in Basilicata, ‘The Flight of the Eagle’ is a zip-wire adventure that offers a ‘hand gliding’ style experience over the park below.

The region is already well known for the adrenaline fuelled zip-wire ‘The Flight of the Angel’ in Castelmezzano, which transports you 1550m across a valley, 888m from the ground, from one mountain town to another at speeds of up to 120kmph.  However the new ‘Flight of the Eagle’, located in San Costantino Albanese, although not for the faint hearted, is a much more family friendly experience for up to four people to enjoy together.

The three minute experience begins by being securely harnessed into the specially designed four seat glider. The glider slowly makes its ascent up a 1200m steel cable above the Pollino National Park, providing ample time to take in the magnificent views, once the glider reaches the top it makes an exhilarating free fall descent back down, reaching speeds of 80kmph.

Michelle Tennens, UK Marketing Director for Basilicata comments “The exciting thing about the ‘Flight of the Eagle’ is that people will get to experience the thrill of soaring through the air like the golden eagles which are native to Basilicata. It’s also great for those who want to share a zip-wire experience with friends or family.” Michelle went on to say “The location for Flight of the Eagle is fantastic, as San Costantino Albanese has many more places to explore, as well as great cafés and restaurants to talk about your ‘Flight of the Eagle’ experience in this very traditional Italian village.”

The ‘Flight of the Eagle’ is open to the public between 1st August and 30th September from 10am to 6pm. Tickets cost €10 and can be purchased on the day of your visit on a first come, first serve basis. Those flying must be 10 years and over and no less than 130 cm in height. The ‘Flight of the Eagle’ is set to be one of Europe’s must visit tourist attractions for 2014/2015.
